Robert Govett was born in
England in 1813 and died at Norwich, England, in 1901. He enrolled at
Worcester College at Oxford in 1830, received a Bachelor of Arts degree
from Eaton in 1834, became a Fellow of Worcester in 1836, and received
his M.A. in 1837.
During the years of his
ministry, he became well known because of his brilliant deductive and
analytical capabilities. There were few men who equaled him in his
ability to use common practical sense (logic) to weed out any weaknesses
in a point of debate, and he was fearless in pursuing a line of thinking
for the purpose of bringing it to a close. He was of the opinion that
the Scriptures should always be open to a fresh scrutiny based upon new
light that might have been received and, because of this, as the years
passed he became independent of many of the denominational views that
which he
had previously adhered.

The Best Mode of Presenting the Gospel
Second Printing, 1989
40
pages
$3.95 USD (paperback only)
Robert Govett writes: "On
the one hand, the Gospel is a simple system of means propounded to all
by the Righteous Governor, to manifest the heart and real choice of man,
and His own goodness. This is connected with the work of the Son
of God. But beside this, the Gospel is also a mysterious
dispensation of eternal and secret mercies flowing from a sovereign God.
The agent of this supreme and effectual work is the Holy Spirit.
But some Christians and preachers will receive nothing but the mystery
of God's purposes; some only the simplicity of the open proclamation of
forgiveness on terms proposed to all. This one-sidedness arises
from partial unbelief in the servants of God, and its consequences are
disastrous."

Christ's Resurrection and Ours
191
pages
$6.95 USD (paperback only)
The resurrection of the dead is one of the chief truths of the Christian
faith.
But it is also something which is most startling to
the man who hears it for the first time. Difficulties were raised
against it in ancient times on two special grounds. Concerning 1
Corinthians 15:21, Govett writes: "The resurrection of the dead.
Here is another idea. This says all the dead are to rise, leaving
none in their graves. Thus it is distinguished from the
expression--resurrection from among the dead, which supposes that some
will abide in the tombs."
Christ's Resurrection and Ours is
Robert
Govett's exposition of 1 Corinthians 15, the great chapter in
the Bible on the resurrection of the saints.

The Church of Old:
In Its Unity, Gifts, and Ministry
198
pages
$6.95 USD (paperback only)This
is Robert Govett's exposition on First Corinthians,
chapters 12, 13, and 14. As he writes: "No
portion of the New Testament can safely be neglected by the Christian;
yet parts are practically laid aside, and considered as of little use to
us, in consequence of changed circumstances. From a reason of this
kind, the chapters now to be examined have received but little attention
from believers. Yet, they are eminently worthy of study, and much
light will be found to flow from them to those who read them under the
teaching of the blessed Spirit of God. . . . As a whole, these
chapters present the churches of God of old in their gifts,
unity, love, worship, and ministry."

Govett on the Parables
Second Impression, 1989
458
pages
$22.95 USD (hardcover only)
In assembling numerous pamphlets of Robert
Govett on the parables Schoettle Publishing has provided a resource of
immense value for the saints.
Though the interpretations were put to
pen over one hundred years ago, the soundness of this servant’s
understanding and clarity of his insight into these matters has
withstood the test of time. With his
usual degree of logic, Govett unfolds meanings lying dormant within the
parables. A must read, and probably one
of the best resource that will ever be available on the subject.

Second Printing, 1989

At the beginning, God
created Eden and its beauty. How was it lost? By the sin of
the Serpent, the Woman, and the Man. The Lord God called these
three culprits before Him, and passed sentence on each.
But His purpose is, to
restore the lost Eden, and to set it on an unchangeable footing.
He has ever since been working at His plan of restoration, and will
certainly effect it. He has also been pleased to unfold to us in
the Apocalypse, His counsel concerning the mode of restoration.
How is it to be effected?

author unfolds how these particular precepts given by Jesus pertain to
us, both from a practical perspective, and in their application for the
coming kingdom. Or, to put it in Robert Govett’s words, they are “the
masters regulations for those who are seeking the kingdom of God.” No
person interested in a serious study of how to be prepared for the
coming realm should be without it.

Sowing and Reaping
Second Printing, 1989
48 pages
(shirt pocket size)
$2.95 USD (paperback only)
The subject matter for
this tract is set by Robert Govett when he writes: "The Scripture view
of the certain consequences of our actions in the day of justice near at
hand, is one of God's motives to holiness; --a very strong one, --
repeated in various forms in the Epistles to the Churches. But it
condemns so many; it frightens so many who believe they are wrong in
some things, or suspect that they are, that they dare not face it--they
will not receive it. Where the heart is warped, it is not
difficult to persuade one's self, that a falsehood which flatters us is
better than a truth which condemns".

The Two-Foldness
of Divine Truth
by Robert Govett
Fifth Edition, 2003
26 pages
$3.00 USD (paper -- booklet)The oneness and harmony of Divine Truth
as contained in the Scriptures, is a pleasing and profitable subject of
contemplation. Though proceeding from so many pens, under such
varied conditions, at dates so distant, the Bible contains but one grand
scheme.
Yet, it must not be forgotten or denied,
that there are continually exhibited within its pages, in bold relief,
truths seemingly opposed to each other. To trace out some of
these, and set them before the reader, with the ground on which they are
to be received, is the main object of this tract.
